Trend Alert: Penny Tile

As much as I love a good subway tile or mosaic glass tile backsplash, penny tile has become a new favorite of mine!

Penny round tile is both historic (it's been used for many many decades) as well as neo-modern. It's become a big trend in kitchen and bathroom design in recent years and is considered a fresh and new option for many homeowners. The shape and size of these small tiles gives it it's name and it comes in so many different colors and materials. You can purchase this tile just about anywhere now (in fact I saw some great penny tile options at Home Depot just yesterday!)

Penny tile is traditionally used on the floor, more specifically in bathrooms. . . although it looks great in modern applications as well!

Speaking of using penny tiles in a bathroom, why not tile an entire wall with this versatile tile?! It creates a great focal point and major impact in small or large bathrooms.

Another great use for penny tile is on a fireplace. . .

 So what do you think of this tiling trend? Do you think it's here to stay?

Quick Before & After

Although I haven't had time yet to get around to styling and taking proper pictures of this bathroom remodel I've been working on, I'm dying to share it with you! The before shot is quite horrendous and not for the weak of stomachs (LOL!) The walls were a faux finish metallic purple paint and the vanity dated back to the 60's. Brace yourself, it's pretty bad. . .

Here's a quick shot of how things are looking now;

There are still a few missing components (like an updated and centered light fixture and accessories) but all in all this bathroom remodel is moving along quite nicely! I get giddy when I look at the new countertop and subway tile backsplash - SUCH a huge difference. Oh, and the although the purple paint job might have been pretty many years ago, the gray walls looks so fresh and updated now. Like I said, I'll share more details and better pictures with ya'll sometime soon!

Cafe Curtains

I'm working on a bathroom remodel right now and we are discussing window treatment options. The bathroom is very large and has a huge window, approximately 6' wide. Privacy is an issue since the bathroom is adjacent to the back door entrance to the home and the toilet sits right next to the window. Instead of doing traditional blinds in the bathroom (which would probably stay closed 99% of the time) I came up with the idea to do a stationary cafe style curtain. This would allow privacy as well as enable a ton of natural light to stream in through the upper portion of the window. Cafe curtains are usually found in kitchens or dining nooks, but you really can use them in any room of the house. Here's a couple of examples of this window treatment done in stylish applications;

I think this type of window treatment will be perfect in the bathroom that I am designing. Currently the space is a demolition zone. . . Here's an Instagram picture I took yesterday of the countertop that has been removed from the vanity;

As you can see we have a ways to go before it looks like a pretty, put together bathroom! I can't wait to get further along in the remodel process and share more with you!

Bathing Beauties

Although I have never had the pleasure of owning one, I adore free standing bathtubs! There is just something so home-y feeling about a tub in the bathroom (as apposed to all of the built-in, shower combo's I've lived with.) Take a peak at a few of my favorites;

While I love all the different varieties of free standing tubs out there, I would definitely have to say that a vintage, claw foot tub, painted a vibrant color would have to be my favorite! What about you, what's your favorite type of bathtub?

Before & After

Here's a project I worked on a few years ago and shared with you here. At the time I proclaimed that I didn't have any 'before' pictures. . . But look what I found! Somehow, seeing the 'before' shot makes the 'after' seem EVEN better!

 Before

yuck, yuck and yuck! Dated oak vanity (and coordinating toilet seat) combined with water damaged linoleum isn't exactly the look the homeowners where going for. What was once a room no one dared to step foot into soon became the favorite bathroom in the whole house!

After

You can see more of the details on this bathroom in this post.

Bathroom Envy

There is only one thing I loathe about our little house that was built in the 50's. . . the bathroom situation. We only have one! While we were house hunting we fell in love with a small, quaint neighborhood and a house that had a lot of charm, so we sacrificed the whole multiple bathroom thing in hopes that we could make it work. . . and we have. . . but that doesn't mean I don't dream of bigger and better ones! Here's some gorgeous, spacious bathrooms that have me drooling with envy;
