Weekend Blurb

I spent yesterday in the city and had the most amazing time with my four favorite women. Here's a sneak peak of the Elle Decor Showhouse that we visited!

Countdown. . .

to Saturday when I'll be attending the Elle Decor Showhouse in San Francisco . . two days! I'm so excited I can hardly stand it. I have been avoiding any blog that has posted pictures of the house (except for the girl's bedroom by Grant K. Gibson, I couldn't completely resist the temptation to get a sneak peak!)
 

Also on the agenda for Saturday is a stop at the Jonathan Adler store!

I promise to take lots of pictures while I'm in the city and share them with you next week :)

Wedding Inspiration Board

Here's the inspiration board I came up with to describe my vision for our wedding!

Style File: elegant casual with a bit of a bohemian surf vibe 
Color Scheme: loads of white and cream with hints of magenta, turquoise, and yellow

Elements: orchids, succulents, capiz shells, mason jars, sand, burlap, and hemp

Wedding Wednesday: A few ideas

Yep, it's that time again!! Last week I mentioned how we are still searching for the perfect place to hold our wedding reception next summer and that it's holding up the entire planning/decision making process. Although I can't commit 100% to anything until we get the venue squared away, I do have lots of ideas I would like to incorporate into our wedding reception. Here's a few of them:

Guest book: We would like to do something a little more creative when it comes to documenting our family and friends that are able to attend our celebration. I love the idea of doing a wedding thumbprint tree! I have a friend who I work with that is an artist who I am going to ask to render a tree on a canvas for us. We'll set it up on a table and ask guests to 'leaf' a thumbprint and sign their name. The end result will (hopefully) be an amazing work of art that we will be able to hang in our home for years and will be a constant reminder of our wedding day!

Dessert: Instead of spending a small fortune on a single wedding cake, Paul and I would like to incorporate a dessert table. I love the idea of guests being able to choose from a variety of different cakes, pies and other treats!

Wedding Favors: Now a days, you can get just about anything made with a custom label on it to give your guests (candles, picture frames, coasters, etc.) Instead of sending guests away with a cheesy little gift with our names and wedding date printed on it, I would rather thank them with a special treat! Since our wedding is going to be one giant DIY project, I like the idea of baking something sweet to hand out at the end of the evening! I'm using this image below as my inspiration.

Family Photos: I plan on having an area where we will display photos from our parents and grandparents weddings, as sort of a tribute to them as well as the institution of marriage. I also like the idea of displaying old and new photos of us and I think clipping them clothesline-style is super cute!

These are just a few of the many elements we will be incorporating into our wedding reception. Next week I'll talk a little more about ideas for the ceremony!

Holiday Cards

Every year when the holidays roll around I tell myself that I am going to make the effort and set aside time to send out Christmas cards. But like so many other things, it sort of falls by the way side and before you know it the holidays have come and gone and the cards never get put in the mail! This year is different though. I'm promising myself that I will take the time to get organized and get it together! Now that Paul and I are engaged and his kids will soon be my step children, I feel like we can officially send out a family Christmas card with our happy faces plastered all over it!

I'm super excited to send out Christmas photo cards to all of our family and friends and have already started toying with some ideas.  Shutterfly.com has some amazing designs available to choose from. Take a peak at a few that caught my eye!

They have so many to choose from, it's sort of hard to make a decision! I've played around with a few different designs and think I've decided on a photo collage, post card style Christmas card to send out to all our family and friends this year. Something similar to one of these;

Shutterfly also has some great photo gift ideas, personal calendars you can customize and a whole lot more cool stuff!

Featured Designer: Grant K. Gibson

I can't wait for next weekend to roll around! My mom, my sisters and my cousin and I are headed towards the Bay! We have a big day planned full of girly, fun things! First stop if the Elle Decor Decorator Showhouse. Next on the agenda will be a little bit of wedding dress shopping for me, yay! I'm sure we'll end up in Union Square and do some Christmas shopping and have lunch. I can't wait!

Grant K. Gibson was chosen to design a 'tween's bedroom' at the showhouse. I got a little sneak peak of it (I didn't want to look, but I couldn't contain myself) over at Simplified Bee.

The girly space is decked out with hand painted De Gournay wallpaper (gorgeous!), preppy pink and green bedding, and headboards and bedskirts that were fabricated using bedsheets from Target! I'm loving the black bamboo chair covered in Madeline Wienrib fabric and turquoise Moracan pouf! I can't wait to see this space in person and take in all the other little details that make it oh-so-fabulous!

This year Elle Decor named Grant K. Gibson as one of the "5 Designers to Watch" and after taking a peak at his portfolio, I can see why!

Have you adjusted to this cold weather yet? I sure haven't!!

Wedding Wednesday: Location, Location, Location

The first and biggest  decision we have been faced with in the beginning steps of planning our wedding has been choosing a location. From the get go my fiance Paul and I have wanted to get married on the beach, toes-in-the-sand style. We've narrowed down the destination to the Santa Cruz/Aptos area and have  checked out a few beaches that are somewhat secluded. (What would be worse than getting hit in the head with a volley ball while reciting your vows?!)

Ideally, we thought we would be able to find a vacation rental house on the beach where we could hold the wedding reception. Something with a large yard and within walking distance to the sand would be ideal! Well, the more we've looked, the more frustrated I have become. Finding something that is 1) within our budget, 2) available in July, 3) has adequate parking, and 4) has a large enough space to hold several tables and room for guests to mingle has proved to be quite challenging!

Wedding plans have not progressed much because I feel like I can't make any other decsisions until we nail down the location. Although I have visions runing through my head, images saved on my computer and a binder full of ideas, I can't comit or move forward just yet! Hang tight. . .

Sorry for the lack of posts lately, I've been sick and took a few days off to recuperate! I'm feeling almost 99% better, so that's wonderful news! Yesterday the lovely Leah from the blog The Way We Are featured my bedroom in a series called "The Way YOU Are". Go here to check it out!

Jonathan Adler Happy Chic Books!

I know I have proclaimed time and time again about how much I adore Jonathan Adler, but how could I not?! The guy is a genius when it comes to modern home accents and colorful, happy interiors. It's hard not to smile at his quirky designs and 'happy-chic' spaces!

Today marks the official release of JA's two new books on Color and Accessorizing. Both are sure to be packed full of inspiration and fabulous tips for creating a happy home. I can't wait to get my hands on one of each!

At only $17.95 a pop these books would make excellent Christmas gifts! (Hint hint, anyone out there who's wondering what to get me for Christmas, look no further ;)

I love how this otherwise neutral space is brought to life with a few pops of yellow! By having a neutral backdrop (walls, upholstery, window treatments, etc.) you can easily swap out a few accessories (like the throw pillows, urn and flowers) to add a fun punch of color!
