Show and Tell

I recently completed these initial design boards for two different clients and thought I would share them with you;

The first kitchen design is for an online client of mine who lives in Seaford, New York. Her kitchen is basically a blank slate (except for the existing cabinets and countertops.) I selected several industrial-style items such as the barstool, pendent lights and stainless steel subway tile backsplash. I injected some color by means of a large rug and some fun wall art.


The second board is an entry design I came up with for a local client of mine. The homeowners recently purchased a split-level home in the country and I'm helping them decorate several rooms in the house. They are a fun family of four with traditional-meets-modern tastes.

There has always been something about abstract art that has intrigued me. It's like a miniature escape from reality into a world where there are no rules with color and form. Using an original piece of abstract art in a space can really make a statement, especially if the color palette is bold and eye catching! To be honest, I am DYING to take down the gallery wall of framed art above my sofa in the living room and replace it with one giant, colorful canvas. It would be a real treat to purchase a Cocoa & Hearts painting, but being the creative type and the 'do-it-yourselfer' that I am I am really tempted to try my hand at creating my own abstract art. . . Hmmmm, we'll see where that goes!

Room of the day

I spotted this nursery on Made By Girl last week and fell in love with the soft lavendar walls combined with that gorgeous abstract painting. The nursery was designed by Frances Herrera and the painting is custom by Jen Ramos. I adore the modern light fixture, geometric rug and custom built in cabinets. What a stylish and chic nursery for one lucky little girl, don't you think?!

Trend Alert: Penny Tile

As much as I love a good subway tile or mosaic glass tile backsplash, penny tile has become a new favorite of mine!

Penny round tile is both historic (it's been used for many many decades) as well as neo-modern. It's become a big trend in kitchen and bathroom design in recent years and is considered a fresh and new option for many homeowners. The shape and size of these small tiles gives it it's name and it comes in so many different colors and materials. You can purchase this tile just about anywhere now (in fact I saw some great penny tile options at Home Depot just yesterday!)

Penny tile is traditionally used on the floor, more specifically in bathrooms. . . although it looks great in modern applications as well!

Speaking of using penny tiles in a bathroom, why not tile an entire wall with this versatile tile?! It creates a great focal point and major impact in small or large bathrooms.

Room of the day

I absolutely adore this bedroom designed by Katie Rosenfeld! Of course I always love a space that has large doses of white (walls, bedding, drapes, etc.) balanced with pops of bright colors and patterns. This playful-but-sophisticated bedroom and bathroom has it all, don't you think?! Although it's not a large space, it definitely is has HUGE style. Great job Katie! My 30th Birthday Party

I mentioned on the 8th that it was my birthday and that some family and friends were throwing me a cocktail party in my honor. We had about 40 guests come and celebrate my 30th birthday on Saturday, June 9th. The theme was pink and gold and there were all sorts of glittery decorations, pink flowers and fun details. We had tons of finger food appetizers and desserts as well as a champagne bar and fun mixed drinks! Here's a few pictures from the big event;
