Room of the day

This gorgeous, light and bright office featured in Elle Decor is making me really wish I had a designated space all to myself! The built in cabinetry is phenomenal, as is the stainless steel file cabinet and inspiration board. I love combining a traditional style wood desk with a contemporary office chair - so chic! One could definitely get some major work done in this space, don't you think?!

Wedding Wednesday!

I was so inspired by this wedding I saw photos of over on Green Wedding Shoes yesterday that I thought I would share it here on the blog today. This casual and intimate wedding took place in Denver and had  colorful and geometric design elements. You know how much I adore a laid back wedding (like my own last October) as well as my love for color, so this wedding just speaks volumes to me! Take a look at a few highlights.

Did you know in Colorado it is legal to marry yourselves? (As in no officiant.) I had no idea! To see more photos and read more about this fantastically colorful wedding, go here.

Home Depot Pendant Lights

Home Depot recently opened up in the small town of Lodi that I live in and I couldn't be more excited! Until now our only home improvement stores were Lowes and Orchard Supply Hardware, so it's nice to have another option available without having to leave town. I was trolling the lighting aisles recently at the new store and was pleasantly surprised by the number of stylish pendant lights they had available!

Upon taking a closer look I realized that all of the specific fixtures that caught my attention are from the Home Decorators Collection. Most pendant lights are under $100, which is my favorite part of all. They have a ton of industrial-chic looking fixtures, which is so on-trend right now. Take a look at a few of my favorites;

$79.97, available here
$69.97, available here

$53.98, available here

$99.97, available here

$49.48, available here

And check it out, Home Depot also has industrial style, vintage bulbs available as well;

So what do you think, do you love these affordable lighting options as much as I do? I think it's great that you can now find such stylish lighting options in almost every town in America! Way to go Home Depot :)

Project Sneak Peek: Teenage Boy Bedroom

After living in our house for over 3 1/2 years, I've finally decided it's time to tackle my step-son's bedroom. I don't know whether or not he's going to be very excited about the transformation. (He loves his hodge-podge bedroom with stickers on the walls, torn posters, and dirty teenage boy stuff everywhere.) But I'm tired of looking at all that and it's time for a change. I assured him it will still look "cool", it will just be a lot more organized, functional and stylish. I saw this room online while searching for inspiration and fell in love with the color combo;

Although he would love to have his bed hanging from the wall like the pictures above, we'll be sticking with a futon style bed instead. I love this color palette with gray walls, navy blue accents and pops of yellow. Here's the design board I came up with for my step-son's bedroom;

There is a large built in desk and cabinets in his room and I plan on painting them white, with the desk top painted dark gray. The dark gray paint color will also extend onto a focal point wall which will have a large built in bulletin board as well. I'm going to hang some navy blue curtain panels with black out lining (his one and only request for the bedroom) and also purchase a new rug for the space. His bedding will stay the same (a navy blue plaid comforter with gray sheets) but I plan on incorporating a yellow accent pillow or two.  All of the rock band/skateboard/surfing/etc. posters will go onto one large wall (I'm not going to be that mean and make him get rid of them!) Lastly, I think I'll incorporate some framed art above his bed (like in the inspiration pictures.)

So what do you think? Do you like this color combo and design plan as much as I do?! I'm excited to get started on a new project!

Wedding Wednesday!

Lately I have been so inspired by ribbon streamers used to decorate weddings or parties. By streamers, I mean lengths of ribbon, fabric, crepe paper and the like. It really is such a clever and fun way to infuse some color and whimsy into the decor of any special event. Ribbon streamers can be used on the backs of chairs, strung together around the room or on the ceiling, or to create a dessert table or photo backdrop. Yes, even crepe paper can be used as wedding decor (and believe me, it's anything BUT tacky!) Take a look and see what I mean;

Savoring Summer

While the rest of the world is already knee deep in fall fashion, football, Halloween decorations and thinking about cooler weather, I'm hanging onto summer as long as humanly possible. . .

I'm still picking fresh veggies and flowers from my garden, dining al fresco and planning a trip to the beach. What are you doing to savor the last few moments left of summer?

YEP, it's true. . . I've finally returned from an unannounced blogging hiatus and I'm looking forward to getting back into the swing of things. (To read or understand why, this post from earlier this summer sort of sums it up.) Anyhow, I'm excited to be back to posting, chiming in on the latest decor trends and sharing some exciting new projects I have going on! Thanks for sticking around :)

Room of the day

This casual entryway in designer Nathan Turner's Malibu beach apartment is the epitome of multi-function. Doused in natural light and featuring beadboard walls and ceiling, this space serves as a  mudroom, entryway and formal foyer all packed into one small space. I love how the entry feels both formal and casual at the same time, inviting you to kick your shoes off but still maintaining a level of sophistication. To see more of this dreamy seaside haven, go here.
